Arizona Coyotes Aim to Win Land Auction for New Arena

NHL Club Committed to Staying in Phoenix Area

Phased Rollout Planned for New Arena Development

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Arizona Coyotes have expressed their commitment to winning a land auction that could pave the way for the NHL club to remain in the Phoenix area after years of arena uncertainty. The Arizona State Land Department has officially posted a 95-acre parcel of land in northeast Phoenix for auction. This is the land that the Coyotes plan to develop into a new arena and entertainment district.

The development will undergo a phased rollout with the Coyotes new arena scheduled to open in time for the 2027-2028 NHL season. This timing is consistent with the timeline the Coyotes have previously outlined for their arena plans.

The Coyotes have been without a permanent home since the 2019-2020 season when they played their home games at Gila River Arena in Glendale. The team has since played its home games at a variety of venues, including Arizona State University's Mullett Arena and the Tucson Convention Center.

"We are committed to winning this auction and building a new arena in Phoenix," Coyotes President and CEO Xavier Gutierrez said in a statement. "This is a critical step in our long-term plan to create a world-class sports and entertainment destination in the Valley."

The Coyotes' commitment to remaining in the Phoenix area has been met with mixed reactions. Some fans have expressed sadness over the possible departure of the team, while others have welcomed the prospect of a new arena.

The land auction is scheduled to take place on May 4, 2024. The Coyotes are considered to be the frontrunner to win the auction, but they will face competition from other developers.
