Jagmeet Singh was born on 2 January 1979, in Scarborough, Ontario. He is a lawyer and human rights activist who has been involved in politics for many years. Singh has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Burnaby South since 2019.

Prior to his election as NDP leader, Singh served as the party's deputy leader from 2015 to 2017. He is known for his passion for social justice and his commitment to fighting inequality.
