NBA Playoff to Start in Disney August 7th

Behind the Magic at Disney

The NBA will resume its season on July 30 at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida following a four-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 22 teams that will participate in the NBA restart will travel to Orlando in early July. They will be housed at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and will have access to three practice courts and HP Field House, which features a full-size NBA court, for workouts.

Once the teams arrive in Orlando, they will be tested for COVID-19 and will be quarantined in their hotel rooms for 24 hours while they await their results. After they receive their results, players will be allowed to leave their hotel rooms and begin practicing with their teams. Teams are scheduled to scrimmage against one another in preparation for the regular season, which is scheduled to begin on July 30.

The playoffs will begin on August 17, and the NBA Finals are scheduled to end on October 12. The league is hoping to crown a champion by the end of October, before the start of the 2020-21 season.

The NBA is taking a number of steps to ensure the health and safety of players and staff during the restart. These steps include:

  • Requiring all players and staff to undergo daily COVID-19 testing.
  • Creating a "bubble" environment at Walt Disney World Resort, where players and staff will be isolated from the general public.
  • Implementing a number of social distancing measures, such as requiring players and staff to wear masks when they are not on the court.

The NBA is confident that these steps will allow it to safely resume the season and crown a champion.
